摘要：

Deep learning is a class of machine learning which performs superiorly on unstructured data. This workshop will introduce several deep learning techniques and their potential applications in capital market research. Cao, Kim, Wang, and Xiao (2021) will be used as an example to demonstrate a novel approach with deep learning (i.e., neural-network-based natural language parser and word embedding) to incorporate complex syntactical features in the textual analysis, and its advantage over the traditional approach in the literature which can only capture semantic features of single words or phrases.

嘉賓簡介

Prof. Angie Wang joined the School of Accountancy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, in July 2017. She received her PhD in accounting from the University of Florida, and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, and a minor in Japanese language from Emory University. Her primary research interest is in the area of financial accounting. She is particularly interested in firms’ financial reporting and disclosure choices, shock-based causal inference in capital markets, and textual analysis. Prof. Wang has experience teaching financial and managerial accounting.
