報告內(nèi)容摘要

This paper investigate whether localities gain or lose employment when there are connected to a transportation network, such as a high-speed railway line. We argue that long-haul economies—implying that the marginal transportation cost decreases with network distance—play a pivotal role in understanding the location choices of firms. We develop a new spatial model to show that improvements in transportation infrastructure have non-trivial impacts on the location choices of firms. Using data on Japan‘s Shinkansen, we show that ‘in-between’ municipalities that are connected to the Shinkansen witness a sizable decrease in employment.

報告人簡介

Hans Koster，阿姆斯特丹自由大學(xué)空間經(jīng)濟學(xué)系教授、圣彼得堡高等經(jīng)濟學(xué)院首席研究員和丁伯根研究院研究員，Koster教授在2020年的ESB荷蘭經(jīng)濟學(xué)家40強中排名第24位，研究方向為城市、地區(qū)和環(huán)境的經(jīng)濟分析，主要關(guān)注住房和土地市場的運作、城市內(nèi)企業(yè)和人口的聚集、基于地方的政策的后果、城市內(nèi)的收入不平等和隔離，以及城市內(nèi)零售和商業(yè)房地產(chǎn)市場的運作。他的研究成果發(fā)表于Review of Economics and Statistics，Economic Journal，Journal of Public Economics，Journal of Urban Economics，Journal of Economic Geography，現(xiàn)為Regional Science and Urban Economics的副編輯。
