This is Tizi primary school, located in a small Moroccan south town. It’s morning and the weather is so cold. You can see some snow around the two classes, built with cement and wood.If you look through the window you can see children shivering from the cold in thick winter clothes, looking at a written question on the board saying: “how can we be active helpers to improve our town and make it a better place?”Then a smallkid raised his hand to say with a loud voice and a huge positive energy: I will get everyone out of their troubles and help them all takecare of their families!!Then you can see the teacher’s face surprisingly smiling: I am sure you will, kiddo!

Hiii, that kidis me 12 years ago. I am Mouad Bouhnini, 20 years old, Moroccan, this is my first year in MBA at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and today I will tell you about the road that got me here!

I will start by describing the place I took my primary education in.So beautiful, but bad economic conditions, severe weather, and the only hope depends on future generations because they are the first to get primary education in the town!So growing up in such conditions required a big responsibility, and that was the first piece of my dream puzzle, and as a kid i thought it’s an easything to do but the older I get the more I realize that it takes more effort and more knowledge. In my second year in high school, we moved to another city called Agadir, which gave me more opportunities to learn new things, so I started extra English course and engaging in associations and clubs of social work and charity to be able to help people in isolated towns. I participated in more than 100 social caravans and I saw the bad conditions those people are living in and I felt a big responsibility. I have to try my best to help them, but the question is how? And can I really do something? And what do I need in order to do it?

On the other hand I started building my academic career, finding myself obsessed with economics and business, so I started reading a lot of articles and books about the economy in my country and then in the global world. When I got into university, I didn’t hesitate for a moment to choose the economy and management as my bachelor’s major. This helped me a lot in realizing a part of the answer of the first question, how to do it? In order to have a meaningful positive impact on social conditions, you should work on their economy. This is possible in many options, first is by changing the socio-economic politics but it’s an unlikely solution for many reasons, or by creating a social company that will generate job opportunities for local population, but both solutions requires an advanced knowledge and practice experience, which I can’t get easily, and probably not in my country and this is where the second piece of the dream puzzle to be put in place. In the second year at university I founded a charity club called “be the hope”. We have done great achievements as building a primary school in a very isolated town, and volunteering to teach French and English to children… This was making a change but not enough of it.

I needed to double my efforts and work for it, because for me it was not a matter of one person; it was Hope for the whole society, but I wasn’t good enough, I didn’t have what it takes, I still had to learn… Back then I already knew that it has to be out of my country but somewhere I can have the best knowledge in economy, and I believed that to be the best you have to learn from the best, after weeks of searching I made my decision, TO CHINA!For many reasons: no one can deny that China is one of the top economies in the world and it’s exactly what I am looking for. Along with the culture of the Chinese people, its principles and the extent of their commitment, their discipline … is absolutely what I need!

Then it came to choose a city, and then a university. I started googling and reading about cities; it’s then when I accidentally stumbled upon the wonderful, distinguished one by its history, ancient civilization and historical monuments: Nanjing city. Bear in mind that I am a big fan of art and history – I couldn’t resist applying for its universities, and exactly the NJUPT because it has a special reputation in the intersection and fusion of information, communication, and management in China. When I got acceptance letter, I didn’t hesitate even for a second!

So the dream’s puzzle is finally complete and the image is totally clear! And it’s time now to walk the first step…NJUPT IMBAer!Special thanks: to all the NJUPT staff for being so friendly and for sharingtheir positive energy with us. Thanks from the heart to all the teachers fortheir time and effort to teach us in such circumstances, and YOU ARE THE REAL CHANGE-MAKERS!

Special thanks to Dr. Yifei Jing (Peking University) forchecking and correcting the grammar and vocabulary of the post.
