International Collidoscope Challenge

To foster innovative thinking among university students globally and to strengthen international exchange and cooperation among young innovators, the Elite Master of Finance (EMF) program at Fanhai International School of Finance (FISF), Fudan University has organized the International Collidoscope Challenge (ICC) for the four consecutive years, providing a platform for university students from around the globe to work together to foster their ideas to better the world. This allows students to discover innovation strategies while cultivating a sense of social responsibility and to define clear missions as the next generation of young leaders.

Introduction of the 4th ICC Theme

There is already consensus among mainstream scientists that human activities have led to an abnormally rapid rise in temperature since the Industrial Revolution. Global warming can bring serious consequences: melting glaciers, rising sea levels, increasing likelihood of extreme weather events, land desertification and ocean acidification.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change（IPCC） estimates that in order to meet the 2°c temperature control target of the Paris Agreement, the world must reach net zero carbon dioxide emissions (also known as 'carbon neutrality') by 2050. So far, more than 120 countries and regions worldwide have proposed their targets for achieving carbon neutrality, including China,the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and so on.

This year's ICC will focus on "Global Warming Mitigation and Adaptation Challenge." University students from around the World will come together to brainstorm in groups to work on innovative ideas focused on the challenge and demo their idea. All above activities will be carried out under the guidance of professional mentors from relevant fields of expertise.

We will hold online sessions at a fixed time everyday due to regional time differences.

Online

Because of epidemic prevention and control, and to ensure the participant’s health and safety, all sessions of the ICC will be held online. The award ceremony may be held offline as deem appropriate.

Participants can register individually or as a team (no more than 4members). When the competition begins, qualified individual participants will be randomly matched by the project teams to work together for subsequent tasks.

*All sessions of the ICC will be conducted in English.

The ICC event attracts thousands of applicants worldwide every year, including students from leading universities such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Pennsylvania，University of Chicago, The London School of Economics and Political Science , Cornell University, New York University, National University of Singapore, University College London, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Hong Kong, and National Taiwan University.

Mentor empowerment in three stages

In order that participants better understand what innovation is, and to help them improve their innovation capabilities, ICC offers expert mentoring in three stages, from understanding the industry, to designing projects in a science-based way, and finally to completing their own business proposal.

■Industry mentors

In addition to academic experts, ICC also invites executives from well-known companies in various industries to introduce students to industry developments according to the theme of the year. The executives will also share the company’s business strategies and experiences on product innovation. Thus, laying the groundwork for students to choose their own direction of innovation.

■Innovation and business start-up mentors

In order to help students master the key areas of innovation and entrepreneurship in a systematical and logical way, ICC invites industry entrepreneurs to participate as business mentors, to coach students on their thoughts and practical skills of innovation and entrepreneurship, and help them improve their business proposals within four days.

■Road show mentors

For the team-based business proposal presentations, ICC invites professional investors (mostly from PE/VC) from relevant industries as judges to score the projects according to their Creativity, Deliverability and Investability from a professional point of view. This enables students to understand the process of innovative project development, from a theoretical framework to practical applications.

Although the event was held online, every session designed by the teachers was immersive. It was a wonderful experience for our group to go from four strangers who didn't know each other to a team who worked well together during this four-day journey. At the beginning, I thought it would be impossible to complete a startup project within just two days, but we did it in the ICC competition held by FISF, Fudan University!
